The Two Most Important Rules I Have for Affiliate Marketing
Before I share the strategies that I’ve used to generate affiliate commissions each month, there are extremely important rules I use when promoting products that are not my own.
You don’t have to use these rules in order to become an affiliate or be successful at it, but it’s what has helped me grow my affiliate income tremendously over the last few years:
I only recommend products as an affiliate that I’m extremely very familiar with—preferably products that I’ve used before and have helped me achieve something. If I’m not confident in the product and I don’t feel it will positively help people, I will not promote it.
I never directly tell anyone to buy a product. I always recommend products based on my experience and in the context of what I’ve done or what I’m doing.

The common definition of passive income is income that you earn without being actively involved. That typically means that you continue to make income with no or very little effort on your part to maintain that cash flow.
Can You Really Make Money with Affiliate Marketing?

There are a few free options like Blogger, Wix, Tumblr, or WordPress.com. Those are great options for some, but I don’t recommend them for 3 important reasons:
Why I Don’t Recommend Free Website Options? For 3 Important Reasons:
- When you use a free service, your domain name will almost always be an “extra” extension to the service provider’s own domain. For example, if I created Cornerstone on
- Wix, the web address would be http://cornerstoneappliancetraining.wix instead of https://cornerstoneappliancetraining.com.
You have fewer customization options for design, functionality, and revenue. For example, I know that with free WordPress.com sites, you are limited to using only certain plugins, and you aren’t even allowed to advertise.
3. When you build your business on someone else’s platform, your business is vulnerable to any changes they might make. For example, if Wix closed tomorrow, you would lose your business entirely.
These 3 reasons alone are exactly why I recommend going with a self-hosted website. You have more control, it looks more professional, and you can truly call it your own and customize it like you want to.
